A new version of the legislation would allow trans people to “prove” their gender by providing a “certificate of sex reassignment.”
The basketball star said his team, the Charlotte Hornets, is "opposed to discrimination in any form."
The game could return to the Tar Heel State as early as 2019.
Charlotte became eligible to host the game after North Carolina passed a "compromise" bill that repealed House Bill 2.
A decision now would deprive the NBA of leverage to push for repeal of the state's anti-LGBT law, commissioner Adam Silver says.
The All-Star game which was to be held in Charlotte, may be in jeopardy if North Carolina doesn't change its discriminatory law.
Commissioner Adam Silver says, though, that the NBA is still pursuing "constructive engagement" with state officials.
In an interview for The Dan Patrick Show, Barkley reiterated his support for the LGBT comminity.
The state has also requested a half-million dollars from its disaster relief fund to cover the legal costs of defending the anti-LGBT law.
