Democrats are hopeful they can amend the state’s constitution to protect hard-fought rights.
In a notable union of church and state, the Alabama Supreme Court cited Christian faith as reason to jeopardize access to in vitro fertilization (IVF).
"The State of Ohio seeks not to uphold the constitutional protection of abortion rights, but to diminish and limit it," Judge Christian Jenkins wrote.
An amendment would remove language from the state constitution that states “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”
"The government cannot excuse its indirect censorship of political speech simply by declaring the disfavored speech is 'false,'" the judge wrote.
Constitutional amendments to protect abortion will be brought to vote in November in 10 states.
