The move to criminalize surrogacy is largely seen as a move against the LGBTQ+ community.
The scene comes as the far-right Italian government has in some cases stripped lesbian mothers from their children's birth certificates.
In an impassioned speech at an award ceremony last Sunday, the designer denounced Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s far-right-led coalition for ongoing measures to restrict LGBTQ+ rights.
“It was as if I did not exist,” one mother revealed.
The parents are fighting back, however.
