A state proposal to bar gays from adopting is likely to die as legislative leaders focus on Ohio's lagging economy, a top house aide in Columbus said.
As debate over the issue flares in several states, a major adoption institute says in a new report that it strongly supports the rights of gays and lesbians to adopt and urges that remaining obstacles be removed.
Ohio has passed both a law and a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, but that hasn't stopped the GOP from trying to stir up antigay sentiment in order to keep its four-seat advantage in the state house of representatives.
