On Monday, former President Donald Trump endorsed Mark Burns for South Carolina's Third Congressional District. The pastor has previously called for the execution of LGBTQ "indoctrinators."
Only two justices dissented.
The group most likely to report hearing anti-LGBTQ + language were students who play sports — particularly straight, cisgender boys.
Trans youth and their families turned out in protest, with some as young as 10 speaking out.
"You may win this today, but you're going to lose," out Missouri state Rep. Ian Mackey told his Republican colleagues.
Lawmakers are considering bills to ban gender-affirming care for youth and bar trans girls and women from female school sports teams.
Ninety percent of LGBTQ+ youth said their well-being has been negatively impacted by recent politics, according to a new survey from The Trevor Project.
Sponsors of the bill were able to get 10 GOP lawmakers in the House and five in the Senate who had previously voted against the ban to vote to override the veto.
Ninety-three percent of transgender youth ages 13 to 17 — approximately 280,300 children — live in states that have considered or enacted laws restricting their rights.
The state now bans funded travel to 17 states with anti-LGBTQ laws.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (pictured) signed trans-exclusionary sports legislation, as did Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt. Ducey also OK'd health care restrictions.
The vehicles displayed signs reading "trans lives are precious."
The bill, which would keep trans girls out of girls' school sports, appeared to be dead in committee last week.
The study also found that almost 150,000 trans youth live in states that protect transgender rights.
Gov. Spencer Cox, who also opposed such legislation last year, promises to veto the last-minute attempt.
The Republican governor has taken hateful action against trans people.
“This is an important victory for common sense, equality, and the rights of transgender youth under the law,” the ACLU's Chase Strangio said.
LGBTQ+ advocates are urging Gov. Mike DeWine to veto the legislation.
The state was the first one to enact a ban on gender-affirming health care for minors. And more anti-LGBTQ+ legislation continues to advance around the nation.
