The second-largest city in Massachusetts has declared itself a safe haven.
Lauren Heeks and Jade Vernalis say they believe the attack by three men was motivated by homophobia.
"The flying of these flags in front of a Catholic school sends a mixed, confusing, and scandalous message to the public," Bishop Robert McManus said in a decree.
Besides a safe place to stay, the church also provides asylum-seekers a stipend, connections to immigration lawyers, and assistance in getting health insurance.
