Queer representation on television still has a long way to go, if you ask the cast of Transparent.
The Advocate asked cast members about representation in television while at the Outfest Legacy Awards, where creator Jill Soloway was honored for her work. Christopher Racster, executive director of Outfest, called on writers, developers, exhibitors and casting directors to be more conscious of ensuring that everyone is represented and their stories shared. While more trans stories are getting screen time these days, Racster pointed out the need for representation for people of color. Amy Landecker, who plays Sarah Pfefferman in the show, wants to see a romantic comedy with a trans character that doesn't focus solely on identity.
