Could Grace and Frankie find a future together as more than just friends?

At least one fan hasn't given up hope. At a recent Q&A of the Netflix show, which included Grace & Frankie costars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, an audience member asked the actors where they wanted to see their characters go over time.

Before they could respond, another audience member shouted, "We know where we want to see them go!" When asked by Fonda and Tomlin where that might be, the person exclaimed, "We'd love you to be lovers!"

The crowd at the Tribeca Film Festival event burst into laughter and applause. Even Fonda seemed impressed.

"You like that idea?" she said, before turning to executive producer Marta Kauffman in the audience. "It would depend on the circumstances. It depends how Marta and the gang could write it."

Grace & Frankie follows the two titular characters, played by Fonda and Tomlin respectively, as they navigate life after their husbands come out as gay and in love with one another. The second season premieres Friday on Netflix.

Pivoting back to the original question, Fonda said she hoped Grace would reach a point of "not having to need a man in her life."

"I'd love to see Grace become capable of intimacy, maybe even with one of her children. Not that these are things that I identify with or anything," she said to the laughter of the audience.

"I'd like to see her take really good care of Frankie," she concluded. "Because Frankie has helped Grace so much with so many things."

When the crowd uttered sounds of admiration, Tomlin quipped, "[Like] if I get sick or something?"

On the event's red carpet, the actors discussed the anti-LGBT legislation in North Carolina with The Advocate. Tomlin called it "horrible," and Fonda pronounced that she would never go there.
