Leah Remini is taking a break from exposing abuse in Scientology to shoot a pilot fora potential new series where she would play a conservative-minded lesbian, reports TVLine.
Remini's character Jean, created by Rob McElhenney and Rob Rosell for 21st Century Fox, is raising her family with her ex-husband and new wife in middle America. A stereotypical patriotic conservative, Jean feels everyone should be left alone -- especially her and her wife, when it comes to her ex-husband, who lives in their garage.
The pilot will be filmed for midseason 2019. After that, Fox executives will decide if it will go to series.
The actress has been an ally of the LGBT community. She tweeted in support of marriage equality in 2015.
In the meantime, Remini will be on the third season of docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath and is starring alongside Jennifer Lopez in the big-screen romantic comedy Second Act.
