Well hello, Ruby Red.
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for AJ and the Queen, an upcoming scripted series starring RuPaul as a dazzling and down-on-her-luck drag queen, Ruby.
The clip shows how Ruby's dreams of opening a drag club are dashed after she is swindled by a con man and lover (Josh Segarra) and his eyepatch-wearing accomplice, Lady Danger (Tia Carrere). Back to square one, the performer embarks on a road trip, only to find herself in the additional role of a caregiver after 10-year-old AJ (Izzy G.) sneaks into her RV.
Created by Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City), the show also stars Michael-Leon Wooley and Katerina Tannenbaum. Many familiar faces from RuPaul's Drag Race are also teased in the trailer, including Chad Michaels, Latrice Royale, Trinity Taylor, and Bianca Del Rio.
AJ and the Queen is culturally notable because it will feature performances from RuPaul in each episode; in recent years, the host has rarely worn drag outside of Drag Race.
AJ and the Queen will premiere January 10 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
