Transgender actress Alexandra Billings (Transparent) has joined The Conners to play a recurring character who'll figure significantly in the life of the titular family.

Billings has a multi-episode arc as Robin, a trans woman who is a manager at the factory where Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and Becky (Lecy Goranson) work. Described as "no-nonsense but fair," Robin is a friend and mentor to Darlene and supervisor to Becky. Tonight's episode promises to be pivotal to the series, and there's an exclusive clip from it below.

Billings portrayed Davina on Transparent and was a producer of its musical finale. Her television credits include recurring roles on Never Have I Ever, Diary of a Female President, and Goliath, and guest spots on How to Get Away With Murder, Grey's Anatomy, and ER.

An accomplished stage actress, she has appeared in hundreds of theater productions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and across the country, and was most recently seen on Broadway playing Madame Morrible in the hit musical Wicked. She was the first out transgender performer in the long-running show.

The Conners airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific and 8 p.m. Central on ABC.

Trudy Ring is The Advocate’s senior politics editor and copy chief. She has been a reporter and editor for daily newspapers and LGBTQ+ weeklies/monthlies, trade magazines, and reference books. She is a political junkie who thinks even the wonkiest details are fascinating, and she always loves to see political candidates who are groundbreaking in some way. She enjoys writing about other topics as well, including religion (she’s interested in what people believe and why), literature, theater, and film. Trudy is a proud “old movie weirdo” and loves the Hollywood films of the 1930s and ’40s above all others. Other interests include classic rock music (Bruce Springsteen rules!) and history. Oh, and she was a Jeopardy! contestant back in 1998 and won two games. Not up there with Amy Schneider, but Trudy still takes pride in this achievement.
