The woman who was just on her way to meet a friend when a video blogger stopped her in the London Underground and asked her to sing "Shallow," Charlotte Awbery, has gone viral since she belted the chorus of the song from A Star Is Born for the blogger. This week, she appeared on Ellen DeGeneres's show, where she performed the song and shared that she's "absolutely overwhelmed" by the attention and by being invited to the program.

Video blogger Kevin Freshwater was hanging around London's subway system asking random people to finish the lyrics to songs he started to sing when he challenged Awbery to sing along to Lady Gaga's "Shallow." Although Awbery began the song with some trepidation, she soon belted the chorus of the Oscar-winning hit like a pro.

It turns out she actually is a professional singer at weddings and other functions. But the viral video has caused her Instagram account to spike by more than 427,000 followers.

One of those followers was Ariana Grande.

"I followed her back," Awbery assured DeGeneres in the interview.

DeGeneres pointed out that more than 60 million people have viewed the video and "Shallow," released in 2018, re-entered the top 40 on iTunes.

Following an interview that featured Freshwater in the audience praising Awbery, DeGeneres presented the singer with a few gifts.
