The cast and crew of Pose take virtual performances to the level of absolute joy in a new video of Billy Porter's song "Love Yourself." The video was released Thursday, ahead of the virtual Pose-a-thon special that begins at 10 p.m. Eastern and 7 p.m Pacific Friday that will air simultaneously on Pose's network FX and on Freeform. The special will also be available to stream on FX and Hulu.
Porter and costar Mj Rodriguez will emcee the one-hour event that seeks to raise awareness for GLSEN, the Hetrick Martin Institute, and the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, which "work to support LGBTQ+ education, social change for sexual and gender minority people of color, and transgender equality through legal services and policy efforts," a release about the event stated.
"Since we've been unable to shoot the show we love, we jumped at the chance to reunite our Pose family and partner with the studio and network to raise spirits and awareness about the plight of LGBTQ+ people of color during such a turbulent time," Pose producer, writer, and director Janet Mock said. "This Pride Month special is a commemoration of our forebears' efforts, a memorial for trans lives lost, and a celebration of the lifesaving work of LGBTQ+ organizations."
Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals, Pose is a heartfelt and often gritty look into the ball culture of the 1980s and early '90s and features the largest cast of trans actresses of color of any TV show in history.
Featured in the video for "Love Yourself" are Canals, Mock, Porter, Rodriguez, Angel Bismark Curiel, Sandra Bernhard, Dyllon Burnside, Dominique Jackson, Jeremy McClain, Indya Moore, Jason Rodriguez, Angelica Ross, Hailie Sahar, Ryan Jamal Swain, Charlayne Woodard, and Patti LuPone.
