The wait is almost over for Heartstopper season 2. The critically acclaimed queer series that follows two teenage boys as they fall in love returns to Netflix on August 3.
Now, Netflix has gifted us with a first look at the first episode by releasing the first scene as well as the titles of all ten episodes.
In it, we see Charlie (Joe Locke) waking up to some cutesy banter via text messages with his new boyfriend Nick (Kit Connor) as Charlie gets ready for school. It ends with Nick taking Charlie’s hand as they go into class together.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alise Oseman, Heartstoppers debuted to critical acclaim in 2022. Oseman created and scripted the show as well.
“Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love, and friendship,” the logline for the new season reads.
The first season of the show has a 100 percent critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and reached the Netflix Top Ten list in more than 50 countries, according to the streaming platform.
“Season 2 is based on Volume 3,” Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum, referring to Volume 3 of the graphic novels. “So we had a good foundation. But there’s not enough in the book to take a whole season of TV, so there had to be a lot of creation of new stuff.”
Season two's cast includes Connor, Locke, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Tobie Donovan, Rhea Norwood, Jenny Walser, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman.
