Saturday Night Live almost got deep into the Menéndez brothers controversy this past weekend.
SNL, known for its topical humor and skewering of recent headlines, dipped its toe into the Menéndez waters in a Weekend Update segment that was ultimately cut for time and not aired as a part of the show.
In the sketch, Michael Longfellow and Marcello Hernandez appeared as "Two Guys Dressed as Doctors" for Halloween, wearing blue and gray scrubs over long-sleeved white shirts.
The two guys said they thought their costumes were straightforward and simple, but this year, Halloween is a little more complicated.
"The moment we stepped out the door, everyone immediately assumed we were dressed as something else: the Menéndez brothers."
"We thought people would see two doctors and start banging pots and pans together for us," Longfellow said.
"Instead, people keep yelling things like, 'You're innocent!' and 'You're so hot!'" Hernandez joked.
"And also, 'Kiss each other again!'" Longfellow added in.
When Colin Jost asked about the "again" part, Longfellow said, "Yeah, it's in the show."
"The Netflix show and TikTok have made the Menéndez brothers sex symbols," Hernandez continued.
"Turns out, people like the Menéndez brothers wayyy more than doctors," Longfellow said.
"We've been telling people we straight up are the Menéndez brothers," Hernandez confirmed.

The Menéndez brothers, Erik and Lyle, are so "hot" right now, because they are the latest subjects of Ryan Murphy's Monster series. The first season focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, while the second season followed Erik and Lyle, who, when they were young adults in 1989, shot and killed their parents.
The brothers said that the reason for the killing was the years of sexual, physical, psychological, and emotional abuse they suffered at the hands of their father while their mother helped keep the secret.
In the show, several viewpoints of what happened are presented, including the idea that Erik and Lyle may have had a
sexual and romantic incestuous relationship.
Monsters shows them kissing, showering together, dancing, and doing other intimate things together.
