D'Lo discusses Hollywood diversity, Donald Trump, and his new web series Private Dick, which is inspired by his queer and Sri Lankan-Tamil-American identities.
D'Lo is breaking new ground in LGBT representation.
The transmasculine performer has appeared in Netflix's Sense 8, Amazon's Transparent, and HBO's Looking as well as films like Bruising for Besos, The Legend of My Heart Shaped Anus, and Lock Her Room.
But a new web series, Private Dick, cocreated with Mark Alton Brown (Designing Women), puts a story inspired by D'Lo's identity as a queer Sri Lankan-Tamil-American front and center.
The Advocate's Daniel Reynolds spoke with the actor and activist about his new role, diversity in Hollywood, and how transgender people should ready themselves for a Trump administration.
