"I'm out the f*cking closet, living out loud with my baby." says Da Brat.
WE TV has announced that Da Brat and her girlfriend, Jesseca "Judy" Dupart, are getting the spin-off they deserve (and fans have been hoping for) in Brat Loves Judy.
The series will focus on the ups and downs of their romance and offer a real peek into their life as they navigate their new relationship. According to the announcement, the series will follow the couple "from building a new home together and growing their budding careers to couples therapy, dealing with meddling loved ones, and a surprise proposal."
Da Brat came out publicly in March 2020, simultaneously confirming her relationship with Dupart on Instagram. In a video posted to her social media, Da Brat tearfully celebrates an early birthday gift she received from Dupart (a white Bentley). "I've always been a kind of private person until I met my heart's match who handles some things differently than I do," Da Brat wrote. "I have never experienced this feeling. It's so overwhelming that often I find myself in a daze hoping to never get pinched to see if it's real so I can live in this dream forever."
Da Brat's confirmation of her sexuality came following years of speculation. At the time, she was surprised and relieved by the response she got from friends, family, and the hip-hop community. "The reaction made me feel like, 'Why didn't I do this shit years ago?'" she told Variety. "There were some people saying, 'We knew it.' Well, good for you! Now I know it, and I'm able to say it. I did this on my own terms."
Now with their show set to premiere on August 5, Da Brat and Dupart get to tell their whole love story on their own terms as well.
