The Korean-language production of Kinky Boots will begin December 1 and officially open December 5 at the Chungmu Art Hall Grand Theatre in Seoul, Korea, where it is scheduled to run through February 22, 2015. The Seoul engagement will mark the first international staging of the hit Broadway musical.
Written by Harvey Fierstein with songs by Cyndi Lauper, Broadway's empoweringKinky Boots, which is based on the 2005 movie of the same name, won a total of six Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Choreography for Jerry Mitchell, and Best Score for Lauper.
CJ E&M, which invested in the Broadway production, presents the Korean premiere in a special arrangement with Tony-winning Broadway producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig.
Broadway's Kinky Boots currently stars Tony-winning out actor Billy Porter as Lola, a drag queen who saves a shoe factory on the verge of bankruptcy. A North American tour launched September 4 in Las Vegas.
