Far-right conspiracy-monger Alex Jones has engaged in what watchdog group Media Matters describes as "bizarre behavior (even for him)" in a homophobic rant against U.S. Rep. Eric Swallwell's call for additional gun restrictions after several mass shootings.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel Tuesday, Jones put on a clown mask and called Swallwell "Swallowwell" and "Swallowswell," apparent references to oral sex, while denouncing the California Democrat's proposals for gun control, including his idea for a national buyback of assault weapons. Swallwell had written about that in a recent USA Today op-ed and discussed it with Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson Monday night. The video was posted with the description "Alex Jones lays out the truth and hypocrisy behind Democrat Eric Swallowwell and his gun confiscation agenda."

Jones likened gun control to castration of all men to punish one rapist. "If you don't chop your balls off and put them in a jar, you're a rapist," he told one of his Infowars colleagues in the video.

He also simulated physical violence against Swallwell. With the congressman's face displayed on a computer screen, Jones said "Look at this little" and then punched the screen. Later, he encouraged his viewers to harass Swallwell on social media, saying, "I think everybody should start tweeting hashtag 'swallowswell' on this video."

Not that it makes a difference, but in case readers are wondering, Swallwell happens to be straight. Jones has often "depicted men as gay to disparage them, regardless of their sexual orientation," Media Matters notes. This includes a 2017 rant in which he called another straight congressman, California Democrat Adam Schiff, a "fairy" and said Schiff "looks like the archetypal cocksucker." Schiff, like Swallwell, is a strong critic of Donald Trump. He further threatened Schiff with violence, but later said the segment was an "art performance." Another time he said National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster resembled a "leather daddy," which coming from Jones isn't a compliment. He subsequently said he was joking.
