Housing Works president and CEO Charles King has been blogging from Haiti since Friday, when he traveled to the country with Housing Works medical director Vaty Poitevien, a Haiti native. The two went to the country to assist PHAP+, a coalition of groups for people with HIV/AIDS. Housing Works is a New York City-based group committed to ending the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness.

In his most recent post, King writes: "On the way to the airport, we passed CEPOZ, an HIV/AIDS clinic and psychosocial support center. The two-story building was completely flat. Edner didn't have to explain that anyone who was there when the quake struck never had a chance. And, if the strong stench was any indication, the clinic had been fully occupied by both patients and staff. We later passed a second AIDS clinic. This one is still standing but clearly not for long. PHAP+ desperately wants to open a temporary clinic for the surviving patients of these two clinics."

King is encouraging people to contribute cash to Housing Works's Haiti efforts by logging on to the group's website. Anyone with extra antiretroviral drugs can be donated to Aid for AIDS.
