LA Galaxy winger Robbie Rogers will present the Guardian Award to Levi Strauss & Co., at the Outfest Legacy Awards next Wednesday. Outfest is honoring Levi's for their work in the advocacy of LGBT equality. The dinner will take place at Vibiana, in the historic core of Downtown Los Angeles.
Rogers, who came out as gay in 2013, has been a strong advocate for LGBT rights ever since. He is currently the only openly gay man competing in the MLS. He also garnered press earlier this fall when ABC announced its plans for a new comedy series, Men in Shorts, based on his experience.
Jason Collins, who also came out in 2013, is on the host committee for the evening. In addition to Levi's, Outfest will also honor Hilary Swank, who won an Oscar 15 years ago for her portrayal of Brandon Teena in Boys Don't Cry and Armistead Maupin, best known for penning Tales of the City. The Legacy Awards presented by Showtime and Merrill Lynch will be held on November 12, and tickets are available at Outfest.org
