The first openly gay NFL draftee took his boyfriend to see Broadway's Kinky Boots.
Can cleats be kinky too?
Michael Sam, the NFL's great gay hope, took in the Sunday matinee of Kinky Boots, where he had a photo op with out star Billy Porter backstage at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Porter shared their photo on Instagram, writing, "Michael Sam stoppin by the Kinky Boots house! #OutAndProud."
Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted into the National Football League, was recently cut from the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.
The Out cover boy attended the musical with boyfriend Vito Cammisano, with whom he shared a controversial kiss upon first being drafted by the St. Louis Rams. Both Sam and Cammisano took time to pose for photos with the Kinky Boots cast.
Written by Harvey Fierstein with songs by Cyndi Lauper, Broadway's empowering musical, which is based on the 2005 movie of the same name, won a total of six Tonys, including Best Musical, Best Choreography for Jerry Mitchell, and Best Score for Lauper. Porter also earned a Tony for playing Lola, a drag queen who saves a shoe factory on the verge of bankruptcy.
A North American tour launched September 4 in Las Vegas. The first international staging of the musical will open December 5 in Seoul, Korea.
